From my several visits there, this is a friendly rural back-in-time rural airport, and my airport of choice when visiting Eugene. You can tell it's well loved by the local pilots, with a memorial garden and big mural on the outside of the flight school hangar. I've never talked to the folks in the flight school but from the outside it appears to have plenty of that small-airport charm. At the fuel pumps there is an aviation oil vending machine (quarts), which I have not seen anywhere else (maybe I don't get around enough?). Within walking distance (1/2 mile south) is Garden Lake Park, with short trails around some small lakes (ponds, really) and a frisbee golf course. For anything else (restaurants, etc.) you'll probably need transportation. Fortunately the airport authority provides a courtesy car - very handy, I've used it several times. Note that there's an active drop zone on the airport - be on the radio and watch for those canopies.
